Who you would be working for:
My name is Michael Lasher, I am 34 years old and moved to Munich, Germany, the home of the original and famous Oktoberfest in 1993. In 1995 I established Mike’s Bike Tours, a now successful and virtually famous name in European backpacker tourism. Applicant requirements:
I am looking for a college juniors, seniors or graduates, preferably marketing and business majors with a GPA of not less than 3.3. The successful applicants will have an strong aptitude for creative thinking and work well in a team. Good computer (Excel, Access, Word) and typing (min. 35-40 WPM) skills are required.
The Internship:
The program is minimally 2 months beginning Jan. 2nd and the internship program runs throughout the year 2002 and different starting dates are possible. After the first two months, a re-negotiation and extension of the contract is possible. The internship is paid, and pay increases after the first two months. The job duties are primarily administrative and revolve around marketing.
The product is a new board game called Globopolis, of which I, Michael Lasher, am the author. The game will be launched in America in the later part of 2002. (Details on the game itself are at this site, globopolis.net) It is my goal to make Globopolis a phenomenal success and case study in unconventional (guerrilla) marketing. The successful candidates for this internship program will be responsible to help prepare and implement different aspects of the marketing plan.
This would include among other things
- web surfing with a fast connection in our office in central Munich
- extraction of targeted information from the web and entry into our database (Microsoft Access)
- Telephoning (following-up) with university marketing departments in the USA, University newspaper advertising departments, smaller retailers of toys and games, and the like.
Compensation and Benefits:
This internship offers the successful applicants full compensation for rent (apartment or hotel) expenses and a stipend of about $200/month for other living expenses. The position also offers valuable experience in the field of marketing and would be excellent to include on a resume, especially for a recent graduate with little to no prior experience in the field. A curriculum of sorts is organized for interns to use as a checklist for what topics are covered and taught about in the internship which include:
- How to prepare a professional business and marketing plan
- Valuable introductory lessons on use of graphical (Micrografix), web and digital presentation (Illuminatus) and graphical layout (Corel Draw) software.
- Experience in obtaining lists, addresses and contacts through various sources
Practical, hands-on experience in what marketing actually entails when launching a new product, as well as international experience, both very valuable compliments to a university marketing degree,
- Learn all about marketing creatively and organizing and implementing a guerilla marketing plan including database organization, human resourcing and networking, telekommunications technology, telemarketing like a pro, how to calculate wholesale and retail pricing levels, getting product distributed, how to organize a professional business plan, how to find the right sources to make your aspirations reality, how to stay cool under pressure, be a Munich tour guide, all sorts of interesting trivia, how to avoid a hangover after 5 liters of beer and still lots more.
